What is Webp The New Image Format
Webp is a new image format for the Web
WebP is a new generation format of image that gives highest lossless and lossy compression for images on the web and website. Using this WebP, Google and Bing webmasters and web developers can create smallest, high quality images that make the web page faster.
WebP images are 26% smaller in size and lossless, compared to PNGs. WebP images are 25-34% smaller and loss than comparable JPEG and GIF images at equivalent quality index of SSIM .
WebP supports transparency with small loss (also known as alpha channel) at a cost of just 25% additional bytes. In cases when lossy RGB compression is acceptable for web page and web, lossy WebP also supports transparency compare to PNG and providing 3 times smaller file sizes compared to PNG.

How Webp format works
WebP compression is used for predictive coding to encode an image. VP8 video codec is also use the same method to compress keyframes in videos. Predictive coding uses the values in other blocks of pixels to give the values in a block, and then encodes only the main difference.
WebP which is lossless compression uses already seen image fragments in order to really reconstruct new pixels. It can also use a base palette if no other interesting match is found.
Webp Supported Browsers
WebP is mainly supported in Google Chrome browser, Firefox browser, Microsoft Edge, the Opera browser, and by many other web tools and best software . Web developers have also drastic support to a types of image editing tools such as Photoshop.
WebP includes the small and light weight encoding and decoding library libwebp and the command line tools cwebp and dwebp for changing images to and from the WebP format. Now Photoshop also can change and create WebP image format, and tools for viewing, changing and animating WebP images.
